Whatever you’re up to, wherever you are, however you’re feeling, and whatever you’re thinking, a tide is tiding somewhere.
In fact, tides are tremendously tiding all over, and while it seems obvious to say “there are always tides meeting the shore,” it is a solid reminder that our home turf is on the soggier side.
If you love living on this watery planet, and beholding its wonders, making for the Roundhouse Aquarium and Manhattan Beach Pier Dec. 6 for the King Tide Watch.
Oceanographic Teaching Stations, Inc. is hosting the morning event, which will feature scientists, climate activists, and everyone hoping to experience the dramatic high tide just above the beach.
The event isn’t simply about being agog, however; visitors will serve as community scientists, sharing any photos they take. These snapshots will help the California Coastal Commission’s King Tide Project, which is observing “… how rising sea levels impact the California coastline.”
Organizers suggest dressing in warm layers, even though it will be daytime, and showing with sunglasses as well as a hat. And, yes, a camera to help the King Tide Project, if you can.
Occurring when “the sun, moon, and Earth align,” the King Tide is a striking show of the ocean’s epic qualities, one that we can observe from land.
Spend the first Saturday of December in a “Kingly” fashion at this educational and uplifting ocean-close adventure.
