STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities are continuing their search for a 22-year-old Rutgers University student reported missing more than a week ago in New Jersey.

Mortimer Wortman was most recently seen in a wooded area of High Bridge Road in Jackson Township on Nov. 21 at about 10:30 p.m., according to a Jackson Township Police Department post on Facebook.

The area is in the vicinity of the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area.

Wortman’s car was located in the parking lot of the Regional Day School in Jackson.

“The Rutgers University Police Department is working closely with the Jackson Police Department, which is leading the investigation into the disappearance of Mortimer ‘Morty’ Wortman, a student enrolled at Rutgers–New Brunswick,” said a statement from the university.

“Despite extensive investigative efforts, the young man has not as of yet been located,” Chief of Police Matthew Kunz told Advance/SILive.com in an email response on Monday.

“The case remains under investigation,” according to an email from a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

A GoFundMe has been set up to assist in the search for Wortman.

“Mortimer is a kind and unique person who is deeply loved,” said a quote on the GoFundMe. “This fundraiser will be used to allocate resources for his discovery and/or to hire a private investigator to help bring him home.”

Wortman stands about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has light skin, dark brown hair, brown eyes, a pierced nose and is known to wear earrings. He was dressed in a black T-shirt, burgundy hoodie and blue jeans when he went missing.
