Suzy Welch, the author and business commentator whose late husband Jack Welch ran General Electric for two decades, is seeking $26 million for her Upper East Side mansion — a rare 40-foot-wide property anchored by one of the neighborhood’s largest private gardens.
The seven-bedroom, seven-bath residence spans 7,675 square feet and sits on a coveted block of East 81st Street, where double-width homes and deep rear yards create an unusually open pocket of green for this stretch of Manhattan.
Welch owned the residence for four years. She purchased it in 2021 for $22.75 million, records show.
The house, recently refashioned by the design firm Williams Lawrence, includes a private garage with a curb cut, an elevator and a series of oversized rooms tailored for both large-scale entertaining and everyday living.

The entry level combines a formal dining room — now used as an intimate sitting area — with a soaring garden-facing living room and a chef’s kitchen that opens into a double-height family room.
French doors lead to the 40-by-48-foot garden, a landscaped refuge that feels more like a private park than an urban backyard. Multiple fireplaces, including four gas units and one wood-burning hearth, run throughout the home.
A mezzanine overlooking the main living spaces anchors the second floor, paired with a paneled library imported from England and a guest suite.

The primary floor above stretches the full width of the property, offering a sun-filled bedroom facing the garden, a large bath with a soaking tub and a walk-in shower, and a span of closet space. Two additional bedrooms and a study area sit at the front of the house, along with a full laundry room.
The top level functions as a self-contained apartment with three bedrooms, a living/dining area, a separate kitchen and optional private entry, making it suitable for extended family or staff.
Deborah Grubman of Corcoran holds the listing. She declined The Post’s request for comment.

Jack Welch, who died in 2020, presided over GE during a period of extraordinary expansion, transforming the company into a global behemoth whose market value ballooned from $14 billion to about $600 billion.
His tenure, once hailed as a corporate gold standard, has in recent years drawn more mixed assessments as GE’s post-Welch era fractured the empire he built.
