Manhattan High School FCCLA students raised 640 pounds of food and $190 in donations to the local food bank.
They did so by hosting a swing dance, open to all community members, on Nov. 10. Attendees could donate three non-perishable food items or $5. Concessions were be available for cash purchase.
“So grateful for this awesome group of kiddos that put hours upon hours in to make Manhattan FCCLA amazing!” reads a Nov. 22 post from Amanda Swenson, the local FCCLA advisor, on social media.
FCCLA, or Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a nationwide student-led, intracurricular Career and Technical Student Organization that’s designed to connect classroom learning to leadership, service, and real-world career preparation. FCCLA isn’t a club but is integrated into Family and Consumer Sciences education.
