BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Five straight pins late in the match sealed Petrides’ PSAL 1A Staten Island/Brooklyn division season-opening victory over host Sunset Park, 51-24, on Tuesday.
“It was a great way to start the season coming off of a loss in last year’s city championship match vs Madison HS,” said Petrides head coach Dave Olah, a few days removed from his PSAL 1A city championship victory in football. “With a nice mix of veterans and newcomers to the lineup, it’ll be great to see where we are at the end of the season.”
Petrides got off to a hot start after Sara Romero received a forfeit at 103 pounds. The Panthers would rattle off three straight technical falls by sophomore Gio Molinare, senior Rocky Molinare and junior Bradley Munoz.
After a loss at 138, the Panthers would reel off five straight wins via pin by Julian Orellana, Marco Michielli, Robert Alincaj, Elias Hardt and Zayd Albaz.
Olah’s crew is back in action Friday night versus Leon Goldstein at 5 p.m. at home.
