NEW YORK — A 21-year-old Staten Island ShopRite employee has been arrested and charged with arson after investigators say he set a fire inside the crowded supermarket days before Thanksgiving.

FDNY Fire Marshals identified the suspect as Dominick Sacchetti, who they say ignited a product shelf containing paper goods during the late afternoon of Nov. 26. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators allegedly shows Sacchetti starting the blaze, which spread rapidly and caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.
The store was busy with holiday shoppers at the time, but a quick-thinking customer used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames before firefighters arrived and fully extinguished the fire.
Sacchetti faces charges including arson, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and intent to damage property.
FDNY officials said no injuries were reported.
