NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York health officials have declared the flu prevalent across the state and said health care workers must wear masks if they haven’t received this year’s flu vaccine.

The most recent data, through Nov. 22, shows a total of 17,783 positive flu cases across 62 counties.

Flu cases are up 119% in NYC and 114% outside of the five boroughs, officials said.

Hospitalizations from the flu are up 99% statewide.

Officials encouraged all New Yorkers 6 months and older to get vaccinated, with Health Commissioner James McDonald saying it’s “the best way to protect against infection and lessens symptoms if you get the flu.”
