The back end of the Reds bullpen is going to look similar to the one that made the playoffs last season.
Cincinnati re-signed its closer Emilio Pagán to a two-year, $20 million contract, according to The Post’s Jon Heyman. The deal does include an opt-out after 2026. Â
Pagán, 34, enjoyed an impressive season for a Reds team that went 83-79 and beat out the Mets for the final National League wild-card spot in game 162.

It was their first postseason appearance since 2020. They were swept in two games by the eventual World Series champion Dodgers.
He recorded a career-high 32 saves with a 2.88 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 68 â…” innings, just short of his previous high.Â
An injury to Alexis Diaz opened the door for his return to a primary closer’s role for the first time since 2019, when he saved 22 games for the Rays with a 2.31 ERA.
Pagán has been a bit of a journeyman in his career, having played for the Athletics, Padres, Mariners and Twins over nine MLB seasons.
This, however, will mark his third straight season with the Reds — and potentially more to come.Â
He struggled in 2024 with a 4.50 ERA before his major bounce-back, thanks to a 32.6 percent overall chase rate and the improvement of his splitter, which had a career-best 36.2 inches of vertical drop.
The Reds are still likely to be chasing the Brewers and Cubs in the NL Central, finishing 14 games out of first place in 2025.
