UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) — The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation urges snowmobilers to prioritize safety and ride responsibly this winter.
The office highlights that excessive speed, inexperience and intoxication are leading causes of snowmobile injuries in the State.
Snowmobilers are advised to inspect their vehicles, wear DOT-certified helmets, and always ride with a buddy.
Riders should stay on marked trails, avoid frozen bodies of water, and never ride under the influence, the parks department added.
The office also recommends taking a snowmobile safety course, especially for operators aged 10 to 17, who must carry a safety certificate when riding on state trails.
