Few foods capture New York’s culinary soul like pizza. Whether it is a late-night slice in Manhattan or a wood-fired pie in Buffalo, New Yorkers have long been passionate about pizza.

It is no wonder that when DoorDash analyzed thousands of customer ratings and reviews from January through September 2025, New York stood out as one of the nation’s definitive pizza capitals.

In pop culture, pizza has long served as shorthand for New York life. From Jerry and Elaine grabbing a late-night slice in Seinfeld, to Kevin McCallister savoring a cheese pizza in a limo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ eternal obsession with the dish.

To celebrate National Pizza Month, DoorDash revealed its list of the 10 most-popular local pizzerias across New York State—each with fewer than 10 locations, at least 1,000 reviews and some of the highest average ratings on the platform.

Each of these local favorites has fewer than 10 locations, yet boasts at least 1,000 reviews with some of the highest average ratings in the state.

Where To Get Pizza in New York

In Brooklyn, Brooklyn DOP in Park Slope serves a straightforward New York-style pie with the kind of thin, crisp crust that defines the city’s slice culture. In Carroll Gardens, F&F Pizzeria continues that tradition through wood-fired techniques and a rotating menu of seasonal toppings.

In North Tonawanda, Good Guys Pizza prides itself on being about more than just pies, with a broad menu that includes salads, sandwiches and fries. Over in Buffalo, One Pie Pizza Co. caters to hearty appetites with its half-sheet pizzas and inventive topping combinations.

Downstate, Manhattan’s Rubirosa bridges restaurant dining and slice culture. Its Tie-Dye pizza, made with tomato, vodka and pesto sauces, nods to both Italian American heritage and modern experimentation. And at Joe’s Pizza, the counter-service classic continues to represent what many locals consider a textbook New York slice—thin, quick and best eaten folded.

A Slice of Delivery History

A quick look at the map shows how great pizza stretches across the state—from Buffalo to Brooklyn—reflecting the diversity of New York’s pizza culture and its regional twists.

Long before burrito bowls and bubble tea became delivery favorites, pizza reigned supreme. DoorDash calls it the original delivery hero—a food built to travel from oven to doorstep with ease.

“Pizza brings people together, from friends watching a game to kids celebrating a birthday,” said Ruth Isenstadt, head of U.S. restaurants at DoorDash. “Every region and chef puts their own spin on a classic, and that creativity is what makes it so special.”

Earlier this year, Newsweek revealed our reader’s choice of the best pizza chains across the country. Meanwhile, some visitors to the U.S. are still grappling with ordering the perfect slice, such as one Irish woman in Florida who thought she had ordered pizza but was presented with something else entirely.
