STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A suspect remains at large on Friday morning after a 48-year-old man was shot in the leg in Stapleton.

The 49-year-old man was walking at Bay and Broad streets when he was approached by an unknown individual in a vehicle. The victim was shot once in the left knee around 9:18 p.m., according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

Police are seeking to question a man in a Nissan that traveled westbound on Broad Street in the moments after the shooting, according to the police spokesman.

On Thursday, the Nissan was described as a gold-colored Altima by a source at the scene.

EMS took the victim in stable condition to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.

Several frustrated residents were unable to return to their homes or enter area businesses as police roped off the major intersection of Bay and Broad. Detectives and members of the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit could be seen searching for evidence at the scene.

There have been no arrests and the investigation continues, police said.
