STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Quinn Yowell won the boys’ pole vault competition with a leap of 8 feet, 6 inches to highlight finishes for New Paltz High’s indoor track and field team at the 10th annual Staten Island Relays at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Dylan Pominville of New Paltz was fourth in the pole vault at 6-6, while teammate Gerald Peyser was fifth at 6-0.
In the weight throw, Devin McCaster was sixth (35-0) and Aaron Birnbaum was seventh (30-1).
Harley Lathrop was ninth in the high jump with a leap of 4-10.
In the girls’ competition, Emma Belmar was fifth in the shot put (21-8 1/2) and Madison Braren was seventh (20-6).
Livi Lathrop was runner-up in the high jump (5-2) and Cara Becker was 11th (4-0).
Lathrop was sixth in the long jump (14-11 1/4) and Becker was ninth with a leap of 13-5 1/4.
In the boys’ distance medley relay for freshmen and sophomores, the quartet of Nico Bloom, Pominville, Alex Preston and Owen Yowell took eighth place with a time of nine minutes, 27.39 seconds.
In the 55-meter hurdles, Quinn Yowell was sixth in a time of 10.1 seconds.
For New Paltz in the 3200-meter run, Preston was fifth (11:28.85), Ryan Burns was sixth (11:32.22) and Ciaran Cummins was seventh (11:37.36).
