NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — A Kingston man died Monday after striking a parked construction vehicle on the New York State Thruway, state police said Tuesday.
David Moyal, age 60, of Kingston, was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston after the crash on mile marker 80.7 and succumbed to his injuries there, police said.
At about 11:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, Moyal’s 2021 Mercedes-Benz was traveling north in the left lane when it struck a stopped 2003 Freightliner construction vehicle occupied by Kyle Patrick Quinn, 28, of Saugerties, police said.
Quinn, a construction worker who was seated in the Freightliner, was not injured.
The Freightliner was straddling the left shoulder and was partially in the left lane as part of a construction operation. It was one of several construction vehicles in place to divert traffic from the left lane to the right lane while a crew installed construction signage, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact state police at Highland at (845) 344-5300.
Editor’s note: This story was updated to correct that the crash happened in the town of New Paltz, not Esopus.
