1. Brad Lander enters congressional race, challenging Rep. Dan Goldman
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander announced he is running for Congress, launching a Democratic primary challenge against Rep. Dan Goldman in the 10th District.
In a campaign video, Lander highlighted his progressive record, ties to New York City and focus on affordability, civil liberties and housing. He criticized the influence of wealthy donors, emphasized cooperation with Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and pointed to his work as comptroller on corruption, housing and immigrant advocacy.
2. Family, immigrant advocates demand release of asylum seeker
Allan Dabrio Marrero has spent more than two weeks in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.
ICE agents detained Allan when he and his husband Matthew showed up to 26 Federal Plaza for their routine green card interview on Nov. 24.
Alexandria Rizio, who is representing Allan, has made a motion to reopen the case, triggering a stay on the removal order.
3. Mamdani keeps the focus on housing, and defends homeless encampment policy
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has been focused on the issue of housing and, by extension, those without homes.
“Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are just one rent hike, one medical emergency, one layoff from joining the ranks of the homeless in our city, which have swelled to the greatest numbers since the Great Depression,” Mamdani said Tuesday.
