The Utica City School District has been awarded a $230,000 Gamechanger Grant from the Wadas Foundation to support its intramural program.

The goal is to make new resources available to students and make physical activities more accessible.

The district says key initiatives include program expansion, introducing new sports and activities to increase participation and inclusion.

The grant will also be used for equipment upgrades, and purchasing advanced equipment for students, including those with disabilities.

“I think it’s very important to get this type of funding, because our kids need outlets to make sure that they are enjoying athletics and be able to be involved in something that’s going to help them throughout life,” said Eric Patterson, director of physical education, health and athletics at the Utica City School District.
