An accident on the New York State Thruway has claimed two lives and left one person involved in the crash in critical condition.

According to the New York State Police, a two-vehicle accident along the New York State Thruway (I-87) has claimed the lives of two residents from Elizaville, NY, and sent an Upstate New York driver to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said that on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at approximately 1:52 p.m., troopers from the New York State Police Thruway Kingston barracks were called to respond to a two-vehicle motor-vehicle collision on the northbound side of the New York State Thruway (I-87) near milepost marker 83, in the town of Rosendale, NY.

Upon arrival, troopers began an investigation which determined that a 2007 Nissan that was traveling southbound on the thruway attempted to make a U-turn at mile marker 83 to enter the northbound lanes and collided with a 2023 Kia. Police said the collision caused the Nissan to roll over several times and resulted in the Kia exiting the left lane and striking the guide rail.

There were two people in the Nissan, according to police. The passenger, identified as 81-year-old Esther Oliveras, received lifesaving measures at the scene but ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, identified as 84-year-old Guillermo Olivera, was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Kia, identified as 21-year-old Amiah Desiah Lea Corp, of Schenectady, NY, was transported to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.

The New York State Police are actively investigating the accident and are asking anyone with information that might help to contact the State Police in Kingston, NY at (845) 344-5300.
