In a city of millions, one unlikely friendship has become a daily highlight for one dog and the friend he stops by to see every day.
Goose, a one-year-old rescue pup living in New York City, has developed a nightly ritual: he insists on stopping by a nearby apartment building to greet Isabel, a front-desk worker who has become his favorite person in the neighborhood.
A recent video posted by Goose’s owner captured the pair’s friendship as the dog hopped up on the lobby door, eagerly peering inside in hopes his friend is there.
Goose was adopted just three months ago through Muddy Paws Rescue after he was transported from the Bowling Green–Warren County Humane Society in Kentucky. Shelter workers knew almost nothing about his past except that he’d been found as a stray. But in New York, Goose quickly found a community—and a best friend.
“Goose is around a year old and a mutt—part German shepherd, boxer, Great Pyrenees,” his owner Courtney Tushaus told Newsweek. “He loves everybody, but he especially loves Isabel because of how happy she is to see him when he visits.”
Their friendship began about a month ago during a routine walk. Goose, who loves peering through storefronts and windows to greet strangers, wandered up to the glass doors of Isabel’s building.
She stepped outside to meet him, and the two instantly bonded. Since then, Goose insists on walking past her building every night, hoping she’s working.
“He honestly is just such an angel and loves everybody—he especially loves Isabel though because of how happy she is to see him when he visits her,” Tushaus said.
Goose is not the only dog who has a daily routine like this. Earlier this year heartwarming doorbell camera footage captured how one dog stops by to see his neighbor every day. While another dog owner shared their pet’s adorable routine when he sees the yellow school bus arrive every day.
A Christmas Gift Exchange
In their latest video together, Goose’s owner shared how the pup and building worker recently even exchanged Christmas gifts.
When they arrived one evening, Isabel handed Goose a gift—a toy that has quickly become a favorite. “It just goes to show what a kind hearted person she is to make a gesture like that,” Tushaus said.
Delighted by the festive gesture, Tushaus knew she wanted to give something back, and put together a gift for Isabel from the pup.
“I knew I wanted to get her a present as well—from Goose—because I knew it’d make her so happy,” Tushaus said. “Seeing her reaction was so heart warming and just reminds me of how important community is.”
The unexpected pair have melted hearts online where videos of their relationship have gained thousands of views and prompted comments from animal lovers.
“This is seriously the sweetest. This is my first time seeing you guys and I just love this. She seems like such a lovely woman,” said one commenter on Instagram. Another wrote: “I’m in tears this is so sweet.”
