STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — St. Peter’s swim and dive team celebrated Senior Day by posting a 76-53 CHSAA victory over St. Joseph by-the-Sea on Sunday at the College of Staten Island Aquatics Center in Willowbrook.

Iona Prep was supposed to compete in the tri-meet but was unable to travel to the Island because of the early season snow.

In all, four Eagle seniors — Freddie Avitto, Frank Conwell, Takashi Rodriguez and Nicholas Randazzo — were honored as the Eagles improved to 3-1 in the league.

“They have been a pleasure to coach,” said Eagles head coach Katherine Fafian. “This is my first year coaching and I couldn’t have had a better group of seniors. They are all constantly trying to get better in their events and pushing others on the team to do the same. They are all dedicated to this team and bring a great energy.”

The big winner of the day was Miles Boylan, who took home four gold medals.

The foursome of Freddie Avitto, Mike Avitto, Boylan and Conwell teamed for first place in two events, winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:54:41 and 200 freestyle relay in 1:59:44.

Boylan recorded two individual wins in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle event.

Freddie Avitto, (100 backstroke), Mike Avitto (100 breaststroke) and Conwell (50 free) recorded individual wins in their events.

The Eagles are off to a flying start this season and Fafian is expecting more of the same as the campaign unwinds and heads toward the championships in two months.

“We have had a great season so far so I am hoping to finish out the season strong,” she said. “We have had great races and dives during competition and I am looking to further improve upon what we have built so far. Our goal is to get as many swimmers as possible to the championship in February and continue to have great races and dives there.”
