Hi-Node is the latest welcome addition to what I call the “restaurant village square” corner of Ridgewood, by such neighborhood institutions as Rolo’s and Il Gigante. It’s thanks to the Japanese cafe’s relaxed atmosphere, a cheery staff, and a robust menu for folks on-the-go — onigiri abound! It’s also good for for those ready to post up with a sashimi bowl.

This spot is going to become a time-saver for locals who need to grab onigiri for the road. There was also a decent parade of strollers and kids, since there are fries and junior-sized and priced versions of most of the sashimi bowls, starting at $10.50.

While the indoor room is airy, it still feels like the team is still fleshing out its coziness. The decor currently feels a tad spartan, even for an intentionally minimalist space. Try to grab a seat at one of the handful of tables out front on a sunny day, or bundle up and order a matcha.
