CITYWIDE — STARBUCKS BARISTAS AND City University of New York workers staged a joint solidarity picket Friday outside the Starbucks at 2 Broadway in Manhattan’s Financial District, linking two high-profile labor fights. The action was part of the nationwide “Red Cup Rebellion,” as unionized Starbucks workers strike for a new contract and resolution of unfair labor practice charges.
The picket also backed the campaign to reinstate four Brooklyn College adjuncts fired last summer, a move their union says was retaliation for political activism. Roughly 70 workers, students and supporters joined the demonstration, including CUNY faculty, Amazon drivers seeking to unionize and New School faculty.
Speakers emphasized shared struggles over job security and called for broader labor solidarity, Left Voice reported.
