DOWNTOWN — THREE NEW ELEVATORS are now in service at the Brooklyn Borough Hall subway station, which straddles the intersection of Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn, Councilmember Lincoln Restler reported last week. “The station is much easier to navigate for people with mobility challenges and parents with strollers,” he said in his newsletter.
One elevator takes riders from the street to the mezzanine level and two elevators go down to the platform, making the station accessible and ADA-compliant. The $106 million project also includes a range of other improvements, from public art to reducing gaps between the platforms and subway cars. There is also some ongoing street-level work on Joralemon Street, which Restler is urging the MTA to wrap up as soon as possible.
The timeline for completion of the station and breakdown of all street-level staging is still anticipated in Q1 of 2026, according to the Brooklyn Heights Association.
