MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A Manhattan-based non-profit is asking for extra support as it sees an influx of military families in need.
The Flint Hills Breadbasket says it is seeing a major spike in families of military and government employees. Those families have made up 35 percent of families seeking assistance for the first time this month.
Fort Riley said many of its 5,600 civilian employees were furloughed at the beginning of the shutdown, without giving an exact number. The government shutdown reached its 17th day Friday after multiple failed votes throughout the week.
