WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Watertown’s part-time city judge will leave his post a year early in the wake of a state investigation.
The State Commission on Judicial Conduct says it investigated a 2024 complaint alleging that Judge Eric Swartz was suffering from a condition that interfered with his ability to perform his judicial duties.
Now, the commission says Swartz will step down on December 31 and that he agrees to never seek or accept judicial office in the future.
The commission notes that it could have forced Swartz to retire and commends him for his decision to step down on his own.
Swartz’s term was set to run through 2026.
Mayor Sarah Pierce will appoint his interim replacement.
