Ten people were injured — one critically — when a third-floor balcony collapsed at an off-campus apartment near the University of Cincinnati Friday night.
Students from the school were celebrating when the tragic collapse occurred in the city’s Corryville neighborhood just after 10 p.m., officials told WKRC.
“They had a big exam today and they were celebrating,” Cincinnati Police Department Capt. Stephen Bowe said.

The wooden platform sat approximately 20 feet above the parking lot when it broke off the side of the building near the university’s College of Medicine.
Remnants of the balcony jutted out of the building while the platform stood vertically and officials investigated the scene, according to photos posted online.
One person is being treated with “life-threatening” injuries while five others were listed in serious condition, officials told the outlet.
The remaining four victims suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation. Officials did not reveal how many people were on the balcony at the time.
Officials did not identify any of the victims but noted several were students.
The building, located approximately a half mile from campus, is not a campus-affiliated housing unit, but many students live in the apartments.
Over 20 units from the Cincinnati Fire Department responded to the scene.
