NEW YORK (PIX11) — He’s a hunger hero who never forgot where he came from.
From growing up in the Bronx to leading one of the largest charitable organizations in the country, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan has spent his life fighting hunger and helping immigrant families in crisis.
For 42 years, Monsignor Sullivan has led Catholic Charities, and he never thought it’d get this far.
“It was supposed to be a temporary assignment. 42 years later, it never ended,” Sullivan said.
For decades, Sullivan has been in rooms with heads of state, even popes. He’s been trusted in moments of national crisis.
“You respond to what comes and try to make a positive difference,” Sullivan said. “It’s a community of caring.”
Serving people is what Sullivan says keeps him going at 75 years old.
“I get tired every day, but we have to keep going,” Sullivan said. “It’s the energy of those New Yorkers in different sectors that we have to do more.”
