BROOKLYN — COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORIES will be in effect on Friday morning for Brooklyn and surrounding waterfront areas, as a powerful storm system brings heavy rain, strong winds and unusually warm temperatures to the city, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory runs from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., with up to half a foot of inundation expected in low-lying coastal zones of Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island and parts of northern New Jersey. Flooding up to one foot is forecast for parts of Queens and Long Island’s southern shore.
Forecasts predict 45–50 mph wind gusts that could bring down trees and cause scattered power outages. Officials warn that streets and basements near the shoreline may see minor flooding, complicating the morning commute.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the 50s during the morning, with record highs possible, before a sharp cold front drives wind chills into the 20s and teens by evening. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and heed road closures.
