BROOKLYN — A BROOKLYN RABBI and his wife with ties to Australia addressed congregants during a menorah lighting, after a deadly terror attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Bondi Beach, Australia, that left at least 15 people dead, according to News 12.
Speaking Tuesday night outside his synagogue, Rabbi Zalmen Drizin placed importance on resilience and faith, telling attendees that “The Jewish strength is not of AK-47’s. The Jewish strength is this – fire, light, brightness.”
Drizin’s wife, Frumie, who grew up in Australia, said friends were directly impacted by the violence, including the daughter of a close friend who was shot and later underwent surgery. She urged the community to continue spreading light despite safety fears.
The NYPD committed to an increased presence at synagogues and menorah lightings across the city throughout Hanukkah.
