Three more arrests announced in recent Manhattan homicide

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – Three more arrests were announced Friday in connection a homicide that occurred earlier this month near downtown Manhattan, authorities said.

The homicide victim was identified as 36-year-old Mark Rickenbaker, of Manhattan, who officials said died after being injured in an altercation early Saturday morning, Dec. 6, in the 800 block of Colorado Street in Manhattan.

Rickenbaker was transported to Ascension Via Christi Hospital, where he later died, officials said.

Riley County Police officials issued a plea for the public to help locate a suspect in the case.

The suspect, Erick Sanchez-Chavez, 29, of Manhattan, was arrested on Dec. 8 in Topeka, officials said.

He was then charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and criminal threat in connection with Rickenbaker’s death.

Sanchez-Chavez was issued a total bond of $1 million and remained confined on Friday in the Riley Couty Jail.

As a result of the ongoing investigation in the case, Riley County police arrested three other individuals.

They were identified as:

• Danielle Sanchez, 47, of Manhattan, who was arrested around 2:41 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, in the 1000 block of Pottawatomie Court.

Riley County police said Sanchez was charged with interference with a law enforcement officer; conceal-alter-destroy evidence in a felony case and attempted obstruction of apprehension of prosecution; and committed or charged with a felony.

Sanchez was issued a total bond of $10,000 and was no longer in the Riley County Jail as of Friday morning, officials said.

• Joleann Killham, 24, and Eli Smith, 22, both of Manhattan, were arrested Wednesday, Dec. 10, and were charged with interference with a law enforcement officer; conceal-alter-destroy evidence in a felony case and obstructing apprehension of prosecution; and committed or charged with a felony.

Killham and Smith were both issued total bonds of $10,000 each, officials said.

Killham was no longer in the Riley County Jail as of Friday morning. Smith remained in the jail as of Friday morning.
