NEW YORK (PIX11) – A travel advisory was issued for New York City on Friday as wind gusts up to 60 mph are expected in the tri-state area.

New York City Emergency Management said the area is also under a wind advisory. Top winds at LaGuardia Airport reached 47 mph and 44 mph in the Bronx, according to the agency.

Temperatures are set to plummet in the afternoon and evening, possibly creating icy roadways. Drivers should take precautions and plan extra travel time.

A coastal flood warning was also in effect for parts of Queens and Long Island until 11 a.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of New Jersey around 9:45 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. The warning expired around 10:20 a.m.
