“Hundreds of Beavers” at New Plaza Cinema, Saturday, December 20th at 7:45 p.m., 35 West 67th St. between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West; Q&A follows the screening. Tickets start at $13.

“If you only see one beaver movie this year,” was the headline of The New York Times’ review of this “bonkers low-budget movie that was shot in black and white, has no Hollywood stars” and is essentially dialogue-free. Whatever. It’s been packing theaters thanks in no small part to the lifesize beavers who often show up at screenings and make themselves available for selfies. New Plaza promises a special Christmas edition of this “frolicsome farce,” which features a hunky fur trapper who wins over a woman by selling beaver pelts to her father, much to the chagrin of hundreds of beavers, who put up a fight. A Q&A will follow the screening.

Discover a miniature frosted cityscape at the fourth annual “Gingerbread NYC” exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York. The museum invited professional and amateur bakers from across the five boroughs to design edible creations that celebrate “Iconic New York” – the city’s buildings, places and spirit – and render them entirely in gingerbread. Themed prizes were doled out by a panel of distinguished judges, including the UWS’s own Bobbie Lloyd, CEO and CBO of Magnolia Bakery. The show runs through January 19th.

Walking Tour of Historic Bloomingdale: Sunday, December 21st at 2 p.m., meet at the South end of Straus Park (Broadway & W. 106th St.); free (no reservations required)

Explore the history of the UWS between West 96th and West 110th streets with local historian Jim Mackin.  Mackin is the author of “Notable New Yorkers of Manhattan’s Upper West Side.” So expect a walk filled with anecdotes including a who’s-who of UWSers who’ve shaped the worlds of art, culture, politics and science. Bake for the Community this Christmas: The Goddard Riverside Community Center provided meals to over 2,000 people on Thanksgiving, and the cookies donated by UWSers supplied an abundant dessert for those meals. They’re now seeking donations of more cookies for their Community Christmas Dinner.
