STATEN ISLAND, NY — Trinity Lutheran Church in Stapleton will host a Christmas concert featuring the holiday portion of Handel’s Messiah and festive carols on Dec. 20, 2025, at 4 p.m.
Wonder & Light: A Concert of Christmas Glory will take place in the historic Gothic sanctuary at 309 St. Paul’s Ave. The performance will include a choir, chamber orchestra, and five New York soloists performing selections from Handel’s Messiah, ranging from “Comfort Ye” through the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
The soloists include soprano Sylvia Maisonet, mezzo-soprano Leanne Surace, alto Leslie Thompson, tenor Andrew Kay, and bass Michael Cheng. Thompson is a Staten Island native.
After intermission, the program will continue with Christmas works by John Rutter and David Willcocks, traditional carols, and a community finale.
“With ‘Wonder & Light,’ we want to give Staten Island a moment of beauty, warmth, and shared celebration during the Christmas season,” said Trent Whisenant, artistic director. “Trinity’s sanctuary was built for sound that lifts the spirit, and this program brings that to life.”
A complimentary reception with cocoa and cookies will follow the concert.
