NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers waiting for their train earlier this week caught a glimpse of an unexpected battle between two rats battling over a bagel.
The scuffle was captured on video by a subway rider at the Essex Street station in the Lower East Side on Dec. 16.
In the footage, you can see two rodents fighting over a half of a bagel for a couple of minutes before a third rat comes into the picture and joins the fight.
The wrestling match was interrupted by a subway that arrived, leaving the outcome uncertain with the view blocked.
The video gained traction online, with many New Yorkers weighing in on the rat fight.
“Name another video that is more New York than 2 rats fighting over a bagel on the subway,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote.
Another user on X kept it short with his reaction: “Only in NYC, Rats Battle Over A Bagel.”
One person online was promoting the scuffle as a New York attraction.
“NY’s new biggest attraction, the Bagel Rats — Get your tickets now!”
