UTICA, N.Y. — The ICAN Utica City School District System of Care hosted its second annual male empowerment event at the Parkway Rec Center on Saturday afternoon.
The event, named “Rise Up,” is aimed at uplifting, educating and empowering young men aged 11 and up within the Utica district.
Rise Up offers a safe and supportive environment where youth can connect with positive male role models, access essential community resources, and gain the tools and confidence to overcome everyday challenges.
“This event is about youth empowerment. Specifically for males. It empowers males and gives them a safe space to learn and to grow and to be inspired,” said ICAN Director of School Based Mental Health Jesenia Wright. “We also hold a financial literacy workshop, and recently we held a cake decorating workshop where kids can learn how to decorate cakes and other skills. They’re being exposed to different experiences that someway will shape who they become in the future.”
The UCSD System of Care supports families through community engagement, education and empowerment initiatives.
They create safe spaces and provide access to resources that inspire positive change and resilience in the Utica district.
