STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Throughout 2025, speed cameras on Staten Island issued 400,620 summonses between Jan. 1 and Nov. 24, the most recent data available. While some speed cameras in the borough have been rooted firmly in place since the program first started, the Department of Transportation periodically adds new locations to catch speeding drivers.

The Staten Island network is made up of roughly 230 permanent and mobile speed cameras, and they generated around $20 million in fines throughout 2025, according to the data.

And while the DOT does not openly disclose new camera locations, it’s not impossible to keep tabs on where the controversial devices are installed.

Over the last several months, the Advance/SILive.com has combed through publicly available information from New York City’s Open Data portal to find when, and where, new speed cameras are being installed.

With a $50 fine per speeding ticket, it’s possible to estimate how much money came in from each camera.
