More than 1,300 toys were given away by NYPD’s Queens South Community Affairs Section, the 116th Precinct and the O’Brien Family Foundation on Dec. 20.
People lined up outside the precinct’s stationhouse in Rosedale for scooters, unicorn bookbags, xylophones, toy trucks and more.
Police Officers Sam Aristide and Elvin Sanchez of the 116th Precinct dressed as Santa Claus and Spider-Man, respectively, and took photos with youths at the precinct’s community room.
The O’Brien Family Foundation, led by Marcia O’Brien, treasurer of the precinct’s community council, donated 400 toys and Blaise French, an area resident, donated 500 toys.
Lt. Frantz Chauvet, left, also of the 116th Precinct, helped organize the giveaway and distributed toys to the children who left with big smiles on their faces.
“Today is about more than toys,” said Chauvet. “It’s about showing our children that their community cares. When police and community come together, we build trust, spread joy, and remind our families that we are stronger together.”
Capt. Darnell Simon, the precinct’s newly appointed commanding officer, said the toy giveaway is a small gesture with a big message.
“Every child deserves to feel seen, supported and celebrated,” he said. “Together, police and community partners are bringing smiles, hope and holiday cheer to our neighborhood.”
