MARINE PARK – COMMUNITY MEMBERS HAVE raised over $80,000 for the family of a father who was killed last weekend while riding a standup scooter in Marine Park, Patch reports. More than 600 people had contributed to an online GoFundMe campaign as of Wednesday morning.

Ilya Perloff, 41, was struck at the intersection of Fillmore Avenue and East 38th Street by a Toyota Sienna shortly before noon on Sunday, and was thrown by the force of the impact into a parked car. He died later at Mount Sinai hospital. The Toyota’s driver remained at the scene and was not arrested.

The funds raised will go to support Perloff’s wife and two young daughters with living expenses and funeral costs.

“Ilya was the kind of man who put his family first in everything he did. He adored his wife, Melissa, and was an incredible, hands-on father to their two beautiful daughters — Maya (9) and Leya (2). Ilya’s love for his family was endless,” organizer Christina Iacono wrote.
