The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s rugby team (result) the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday (Oct. 18) night at Varsity Stadium.
Matching up against a strong Queen’s squad, U of T left everything they had on the field showcasing their physicality against one of the premier clubs in the OUA.
As the Gaels jumped out to an early lead a penalty conversion from second-year scrum half Yuta Takahashi put three points on the board for the Blues. As the Gaels continued to push their way down the field, Toronto never broke. The Blues showed resilience in the match competing until the final whistle and matched the Gaels physical play. Fourth-year prop Vijay Kuo scored two tries, both followed up by successful conversions from Takahashi.
Cameron Bubyn and Gabriel Ricci each had two tries for Queen’s.
U of T concludes the regular season with a 1-5 record, missing out on the OUA playoffs. The Blues will look to retool and revamp for next fall as they’ll look to return to the postseason.
