BROWNSVILLE — A 46-YEAR-OLD MAN was shot in the chest around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday outside 182 Belmont Ave. near Powell Street in Brownsville, police said. EMS transported Midwood resident Marcin Iwanowicz to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Relatives said Iwanowicz had been enrolled in a methadone program at the nearby St. Jude Treatment Center for years to treat a painkiller addiction that followed a shoulder injury, according to the New York Daily News.
“It’s shocking because it’s Christmas Eve morning. He got shot for nothing,” said his brother, Cezary Iwanowicz, 41. “I’m basically in shock.”
