SIA 72, PR 41

Danny Nowak led the Tigers with 20 points, while Luke DeVito and Gabe Moschella added 16 and 15, respectively.

A sluggish first quarter ended with the Raiders ahead, 9-6, as some cold shooting against Port Richmond’s zone defense stalled the Tiger offense. SIA, however, would then use its defense in the second quarter to help fuel a 28-6 run to head into halftime with a comfortable 34-15 advantage.

“It’s not like our first quarter defense was bad,” SIA head coach Mike Mazella offered. “But sometimes our 1-3-1 can ignite our offense, and it did again today, as we were able to score a bunch of points in transition in the second quarter. We were able to get several deflections and steals from our zone, and we did a solid job on the boards.”

Shiv Thakkar would help spearhead the Tigerss stingy defense with some strong play in the middle of their zone.

“Shiv stepped up in the second quarter and did a great job playing the passing lanes and defending their post players when needed,” Mazella would add.

DeVito would score 10 points in the second quarter, Mike Belkin added seven, and Ayden Howe chipped in with five in the period, as the Tigers made up for their slow start with conversions in the open court.

In the second half, Nowak would be the beneficiary of SIA’s transition game, as the senior guard tallied eight points in each of the final two stanzas. Moschella would toss in seven third quarter points, and John Elefterakis notched six in the final period.

DyShawn Cartagena paced the Raiders with 16 points.
