Real estate mogul and “Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran has sold her duplex Manhattan penthouse for $13.5 million, which is more than $1.5 million of the original asking price.
Realtor.com reported Corcoran acquired the property in 2015 for $10 million and spent $2 million over the years to renovate it. Her acquisition of the 11-bedroom, 4-bathroom unit is a story into itself – she first became aware of it in 1992 when she was employed as a messenger and was tasked with delivering a letter to the penthouse’s owner. Although she was nowhere near able to afford such a property at the time, Corcoran boldly asked the owner to stay in touch if she ever wanted to sell it – which led to Corcoran’s purchase two decades later.
While professing adoration for the space, Corcoran said its two-story layout and curved staircase had become difficult for her 80-year-old husband Bill Higgins. She has since secured a one-floor penthouse in a nearby building for an undisclosed price.
