SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: For the second time in less than a week, New York state is bracing for even more extreme winter weather.
This round is coming just days after Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for about three dozen counties buried under snow.
Hochul joined Spectrum News 1 on Sunday to discuss the concerns for this new round of extreme weather.
“Winter storms are approaching several regions of New York State bringing ice, snow and high winds that will make roadways hazardous,” Hochul said. “New Yorkers should monitor local forecasts and take caution to avoid travel in impacted areas. Plow crews, emergency management teams and utility personnel have been deployed and are ready to keep New Yorkers safe throughout the storm.”
Officials say lake-effect snow is expected to impact the North Country, Finger Lakes, Western and Central New York beginning Monday into Wednesday.
Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for the North Country, Mohawk Valley, Central New York, Southern Tier, and Mid-Hudson and Capital Regions through Monday afternoon.
The Governor’s Office says a Flood Watch also has been issued for parts of Western New York, the Finger Lakes and the North Country. Strong winds also are anticipated for these regions, with gusts of 60 to 70 mph possible, according to officials.
Near whiteout conditions are possible for drivers Monday and Tuesday.
