Times Square is getting ready to host its annual New Year’s celebration in a few days. On Sunday, New Yorkers and tourists gathered at the Crossroads of the World to say goodbye to 2025 in a unique way.
“Good Riddance Day” is an annual event hosted by the Times Square Alliance that gives everyone a chance let go of unpleasant, frustrating and forgettable memories from 2025.
It’s inspired by a Latin American tradition where people celebrating the new year stuff dolls with objects that represent bad memories before setting them on fire.
In the past, participants were able to write their regrets on a piece of paper and burn them, but this yearm people wrote their bad memories on official “Good Riddance Day” tickets, tore them up, then tossed them in the trash.
