SUNSET PARK — ANARACHIST ORGANIZERS INTEND to host their annual New Year’s Eve “noise demo” outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park this week, in solidarity with incarcerated people, according to NYC Anarchist Black Cross.
The demonstration is set for 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, outside the federal jail on 29th Street between Second and Third avenues. Participants are encouraged to bring air horns, drums, and “anything that is loud” to ensure the noise reaches the inmates.
Organizers describe the event as “both protest and celebration,” framing it as direct solidarity rather than an appeal to authorities. The event coincides with what they call the “noisiest night of the year.”
