FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO a fire at 1166 Burke Avenue in the Laconia section of the East Bronx on Dec. 30, 2025, in which one person died.

One person died following a residential fire in the Laconia section of the East Bronx in the early hours of Tuesday, Dec. 30, according to the FDNY.
An FDNY spokesperson said the department received a call at 3.13 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of a fire at 1166 Burke Avenue, located between Hering Avenue and Tenbroeck Avenue.
The spokesperson said 12 emergency units, comprising 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and EMS pronounced one civilian deceased at the location.
According to firefighters, the fire was brought under control at 3.52 a.m. and the fire marshal is on scene investigating the cause. There were no additional injuries.

There were no injuries reported following a recent car fire in Kingsbridge on Dec. 13, and as reported, there were no human injuries reported after a fire broke out in an Auto Repair shop on Jerome Avenue in Norwood on Dec. 10.
