STATEN ISLAND, NY — Three Staten Island students were awarded Coast Guard Foundation scholarships this year.

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the Coast Guard community, announced on Wednesday that it had awarded a record 255 new scholarships in 2025. The foundation also awarded seven Fallen Heroes Scholarships to children of Coast Guard members.

These scholarships benefit the children of Coast Guard members who are serving or have served in the United States Coast Guard.

“Saying yes to Coast Guard children is more than a commitment, it is a promise to stand behind a generation driven by purpose and prepared to make a meaningful difference in the world,” said Susan Ludwig, president of the Coast Guard Foundation. “Building on this milestone, we are dedicated to increasing scholarship amounts and the number of recipients in the years ahead to meet the growing needs of Coast Guard families.”

Staten Island siblings Aidan Farmer and Liam Farmer, the children of retired Coast Guard veteran Shawn Farmer, both received recognition, with Aidan receiving the Coast Guard Foundation Crowley Scholarship and Liam the Coast Guard Foundation scholarship.

Connor Goodwin, also from Staten Island and the child of retired Coast Guard veteran Glenn Goodwin, received a Coast Guard Foundation scholarship.

This is Aidan’s second year receiving the Crowley Scholarship, which contributes to his education at Rowan University in New Jersey, where he studies chemical engineering.

“I am very grateful for this,” the college sophomore shared. “It has helped me not have to worry so much about the money, and helped me just focus on my studies.”

Liam had a similar interpretation of his win, which assists him in pursuing a degree in aviation from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

“It’s very generous and wonderful,” he said. “The money I received from the scholarship has definitely helped cut down on the amount of loans I need to take out. It’s helped me a lot, especially down the line.”

Other New York scholarship winners recognized this year include Riley Bonetto from Orchard Park; Nikolai Lopatka from Rochester; Denivia Rivera from the Bronx; and siblings Casey Swan and Coral Swan from Cheektowaga.
