Deeply committed Staten Island educator dies at 59

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — For more than a decade, William “Bill” Falcone dedicated his life to educating and uplifting Staten Island students.

Known for his kindness and unwavering commitment to education, the longtime educator died of natural causes on Dec. 24. He was 59.

Born on May 15, 1966, Falcone was raised on Staten Island, where he dedicated much of his life to education and service. He taught for 16 years at Barnes Intermediate School (I.S. 24) in Great Kills, where he was known not only for his commitment to academic excellence but also for the genuine care he showed toward every student who walked into his classroom.

School officials described Falcone as a valued and deeply respected member of the I.S.24 community in a statement shared on the school’s Facebook page, calling his passing a heartbreaking loss for all.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of Teacher, Mr. William Falcone, a valued member of our school community who served as a Teacher for sixteen years,” the post read. “This loss is heartbreaking, and we know it will affect many of our students and families.”

A man of faith, Falcone lived according to Christian principles and was known among family and friends for his kindness, patience and generosity. He was a constant source of support to those closest to him. His sister, Laura Hazelett, remembered him not only as a loving brother but as a true friend and confidant, according to Falcone’s obituary.

Outside the classroom, Falcone found joy on the open road as a passionate Harley-Davidson rider. He cherished the freedom of riding and the companionship with fellow motorcyclists.

He was also a natural tinkerer who found comfort in fixing and building things, whether working on engines or helping loved ones piece together solutions during challenging moments.

“Bill had the knack for seeing the pieces of a puzzle and knowing just how they fit,” stated his obituary. “This ability extended beyond the physical realm, as he often helped piece together solutions for the challenges faced by those he loved.”
