STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Qualifying begins Saturday in the 50th Annual New Year Singles Classic at Rab’s Country Lanes at 1 p.m.
Tournament director Jim Elliott said the first squad — which offers a second entry at no cost “is almost full and then I will start a waiting list.”
Previous winners entered in the opening squad are Joe Lampariello, Tim McAuliffe Jr., Don Pendleton, Red Baranello, Rob Vinci and six-time champ George Cretella.
A second qualifier will take place Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Qualifying continues Sunday at 1 and 2:30 and Jan. 10-11, 2026 at the same times.
The Top-24 finals in the borough’s longest running open bowling event will be contested Jan. 17 at 3 p.m.
The top two from each squad move into the finals as well as the next eight highest three-game rollers.
The entry fee is $60. The format consists of bowling three games across six lanes. Handicap is 70 percent of a 220 average.
The finals are scratch.
Jeff Scire will be gunning for his third straight crown.
