Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens is one of the most frequently flooded parks in the city, and is very common after a rainfall.
The Waterfront Alliance points out that, as climate change worsens, the park will be flooded more frequently — from high tide, rising groundwater and more frequent and intense precipitation.
The alliance is a nonprofit civic organization in the city that advocates for revitalizing, protecting and making the region’s waterfronts accessible to all communities.
It has come up with a plan to prevent future flooding in the park and to make it more storm resilient.
Joseph Sutkowi, the chief waterfront design officer at the Waterfront Alliance, joined anchor Rocco Vertuccio on “Weekends on 1.”
