STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City runs on Dunkin’.
According to the findings of a new regionalized retail study, the coffee and doughnut chain is a fan fave in the Big Apple and is considered the retailer with the most stores in every borough — including Staten Island.
“This year, Dunkin’ overtook Starbucks for the #1 spot as Manhattan’s top retailer, with 169 locations,” noted the findings from Center for an Urban Future, which produces this type of data each year. “Dunkin’ is now the top retailer in every borough, with 189 locations in Queens, 169 locations in Manhattan, 134 locations in Brooklyn, 91 locations in the Bronx, and 40 locations in Staten Island.”
According to the State of the Chains report, which tracks year-over-year changes in the number of chain stores in each of the five boroughs and citywide, Dunkin’ has held the top spot as NYC’s most populous chain for 18 years.
And while the brand closed three stores citywide in 2025, its position as the coffee sector’s leader has only been further cemented by the contraction of Starbucks, which shrunk its national footprint by 400 locations recently as part of a major restructuring effort.
Starbucks, which closed its Staten Island Mall location in December, now only maintains 316 shops in NYC. Dunkin’ has more than double that number.
