The New York Yankees are one of the best teams in the league right now, but they haven’t made any big moves to improve the roster this offseason.

Over the course of the next few weeks, the Yankees are bound to make some moves, but they might wait until the trade deadline next season to make the biggest moves. There’s a chance the Yankees roster looks completely different in a few months.

Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com predicted the Yankees would swing a big trade with the New York Mets at the 2026 MLB trade deadline that would send Luis Gil to Queens in exchange for young infielder Mark Vientos.

“At the MLB trade deadline, the Yankees and Mets make a rare blockbuster deal, swapping Yanks starter Luis Gil for third baseman Mark Vientos,” Caldera wrote.

The Yankees would need to sign or trade for a starting pitcher in the next few weeks for an eventual trade of Gil to make sense. If they can acquire some more pitching to eventually replace Gil, trading him for Vientos would make sense.

Vientos would slot in as the team’s franchise third baseman going forward. He’s coming off a down year, but the potential at the plate is still there. If he can put all the pieces together, there’s no reason he’s not one of the better young sluggers going forward.

Still, the trade seems unlikely for the Yankees as their roster currently sits.
